Storage guide
Seasonal storage in Blackpool
for a town that runs on seasons
Blackpool's year has a strong rhythm, from the busy summer to the autumn Illuminations and a quieter winter. Seasonal storage lets households and businesses keep what they need now and park the rest.
A seaside town's rhythm
Few places swing between seasons quite like a seaside resort. Through the warmer months, the town fills with visitors. Autumn brings the Illuminations, which extend the season for many local businesses. Then winter is quieter, and many people turn to repairs, refits and planning for next year.
That rhythm affects what people need to store. A guest house owner might need room for spare bedding and garden furniture in winter. A market trader might need more stock space ahead of the busy months. A family might want the paddling pool and barbecue out of the shed in October, and the Christmas tree out of the loft in November.
Rotating household kit
Most homes have two sets of things: what you use now, and what you will use in six months. Keeping both at home means cupboards that never close and a garage you cannot get into.
| Store over winter | Store over summer |
|---|---|
| Garden furniture and cushions | Winter coats, boots and heavy bedding |
| Camping kit and beach gear | Christmas decorations and the artificial tree |
| Bikes and paddleboards | Electric heaters and dehumidifiers |
| Barbecue (cleaned, gas cylinder removed) | Sledges and winter sports kit |
Swap the two piles twice a year. A small pod is often enough for this, and once our first-floor pods open in spring 2027, the guide prices start from £10 a week.
Seasonal stock for local businesses
Businesses that trade with visitors often need very different amounts of space through the year. Stock builds up before the busy months, then dwindles. Equipment used only in summer sits idle all winter.
- Guest houses and holiday lets: spare linen, replacement furniture, garden and outdoor seating, decorating supplies for winter refits.
- Market and event traders: gazebos, tables, display stands and stock between events.
- Retailers: overflow stock ahead of the season, or end-of-season stock waiting for next year.
- Event and entertainment businesses: props, sound gear and decorations.

Flexing your space with the seasons
Rolling monthly terms make it easier to match space to the season. The minimum is one month, then you give one month's notice to leave. You can also swap to a bigger or smaller unit at any time, subject to availability.
That means a business could take a larger unit ahead of the season and drop down once the stock has sold. Swaps depend on what is free at the time, so plan ahead and let us know early. If you need more space than one unit, some have interconnecting doors, so you can rent two or three side by side.
Our unit comparison page sets out the options, from the 150 sq ft unit at £65 a week up to the 300 sq ft two-storey unit at £130 a week.
Winter refits for guest houses and holiday lets
The quieter months are when many accommodation owners redecorate, replace carpets or refit bathrooms. Clearing rooms of beds, wardrobes and soft furnishings while the work goes on keeps everything clean and lets trades work faster.
A roller-shutter unit suits this best because beds, mattresses and wardrobes load straight in. The 180 sq ft roller-shutter unit at £78 a week, about £338 a month, gives room for the contents of several guest rooms. Plan the order you will put rooms back together, and load the unit so the first rooms to reopen come out first.
Our renovation storage guide covers the planning in more detail, and the furniture storage guide explains how to wrap and stack beds and wardrobes.
Packing seasonal items so they last
- Clean and dry everythingSand, salt and damp are the enemies here. Rinse beach gear and let tents and cushions dry fully before packing.
- Remove fuel and gasEmpty lawnmowers and generators of fuel. Gas cylinders from barbecues and patio heaters must not be stored in bulk unless agreed in writing.
- Take batteries outBatteries left in decorations and toys can leak over months.
- Use labelled cratesLabel by season as well as contents, so swapping over is quick.
- Put next season at the frontWhatever you will need next goes nearest the door.
Costing a season
Seasonal storage is easy to cost because the months are predictable. Take the weekly price, multiply by 52 and divide by 12 for a monthly figure, then multiply by the months you need.
| Space | Weekly | About per month | About for 5 winter months |
|---|---|---|---|
| 25 sq ft pod (guide price) | £14 | £61 | £303 |
| 75 sq ft room (guide price) | £28 | £121 | £607 |
| 150 sq ft unit | £65 | £282 | £1,408 |
| 180 sq ft unit | £78 | £338 | £1,690 |
Pods and rooms open in spring 2027 and their prices are guide prices, to be confirmed. For a business, compare the figure with the profit the extra stock or equipment will bring in during the season.
Christmas and one-off events
Christmas decorations are a classic seasonal store. Lights, wreaths and trees take up a surprising amount of loft or cupboard space for eleven months of the year. Keep fragile baubles in their original boxes or egg-box style trays, wrap lights around a piece of card to stop tangles, and store the tree in its bag or box.
The same applies to one-off events: a wedding, a big birthday or a community event. Decorations, signage and hired-in kit can be gathered in one place in the weeks before, so the day itself is easier to set up. Community groups and clubs often do the same with equipment between seasons, as our unit ideas for clubs and community groups page describes.
Access all year round
Seasons do not always arrive on schedule. A warm spell in April, a last-minute booking, an extra market date. With 24-hour access you can collect what you need when you need it, without waiting for opening times. Lighting and power are connected in every unit, so evening visits in the darker months are straightforward.
Units are available from 1 November 2026, which suits anyone wanting to clear summer kit out over winter. Pre-book and the first week is free. To check what is free for your dates, message us on WhatsApp.
