Storage for Fleetwood
an honest look at your options

Fleetwood sits at the northern tip of the Fylde coast, at the opposite end from Lytham. A unit at The Rock Factory can still make sense for some people there, and this guide is honest about when it does and when it does not.

Fleetwood and what its residents need

Fleetwood is a town with a strong identity: a fishing and port heritage, the Marine Hall, its lighthouses, its market and its position on the Wyre estuary. The tram line ends here, and the A585 is the main road into town. It is part of Wyre borough.

The housing includes older terraces near the docks and town centre, and larger homes and newer estates further out. Space at home is as tight here as anywhere, and people store things for all the usual reasons: moving, renovating, downsizing, running a business.

When a unit in central Blackpool makes sense from Fleetwood

We will be straight about this. If you need to visit your storage several times a day, a site close to home is likely to suit you better. But plenty of storage is visited rarely, and for that the journey matters much less.

A unit with us is more likely to work if:

  • You are storing things long-term and will only visit now and then.
  • Your work or daily routine already brings you into Blackpool.
  • You need a workspace with power and Wi-Fi, not just a store.
  • You want a rolling monthly agreement instead of a long lease.

Whatever you decide, check your route from Fleetwood on Google Maps first. We do not quote distances or journey times.

Long-term storage done well

If your things will sit for months at a time, packing them properly is worth the extra effort at the start:

  1. Clean and dry everythingDirt and moisture cause more damage than time does.
  2. Use strong boxes of the same sizeThey stack safely and are easy to label.
  3. Keep air movingLeave a gap between boxes and the walls, and avoid sealing fabrics in plastic.
  4. Make an inventoryKeep a list at home, with photos, so you know what is where without a trip.
  5. Check in occasionallyA visit every so often lets you spot problems early.

Fishing, boating and outdoor kit

With the sea and the estuary on the doorstep, many Fleetwood households have rods, tackle boxes, waders, wetsuits, kayaks or camping gear. Much of it is seasonal and it takes up a lot of room.

Rinse salt water off kit and let it dry fully before storing it, or you may come back to mould and corrosion. Keep anything with fuel, such as outboard motors or fuel cans, out of the building: bulk fuel is not allowed unless agreed in writing. Rods, tackle, clothing and non-powered craft that fit through the door or shutter are fine.

Our guide on seasonal storage has more on rotating kit between home and unit.

What long-term storage costs here

If you are storing for many months, the monthly figure is what matters. Our rent is set per week, based on floor area. Here are the ground-floor units with approximate monthly equivalents (weekly rent × 52 ÷ 12):

UnitPer weekAbout per month
150 sq ft, roller shutter£65£282
160 sq ft, security door£69£299
180 sq ft, roller shutter£78£338
300 sq ft, two storeys£130£563

Prices are subject to availability. Electricity is charged separately at the supplier rate, with no markup, and insurance is not included. For smaller amounts, the first-floor pods opening in spring 2027 have guide prices from £10 a week, to be confirmed.

For Fleetwood businesses

Some Fleetwood businesses already serve customers across the Fylde coast, such as gardeners, landscapers, event suppliers and online sellers. For them, a base in central Blackpool can be practical.

The two-storey unit at £130 a week gives you storage on the ground floor and a windowed area upstairs for office work. For landscaping and garden businesses, see unit ideas for gardening and landscaping. Business rates may apply to a commercial unit, and for a unit in our building that would be handled by Blackpool Council rather than Wyre. Ask us about the unit, and see the GOV.UK links below.
