Storage for North Shore and Bispham
when the house is changing

North Shore and Bispham have more than their share of larger family homes, and plenty of people there are downsizing, clearing a parent's house or refitting a hotel. Here is how to decide whether a unit in central Blackpool helps.

What makes North Shore and Bispham different

Heading north from North Pier, the promenade climbs onto the cliffs, past the Gynn and on towards Bispham. Behind the seafront hotels are streets of bigger semi-detached and detached houses, many of them family homes for decades.

That shapes the reasons people need storage here. It is less often about a lack of space day to day, and more often about a change: the children have left, a move to somewhere smaller is coming, or a relative's home needs clearing. Hotel owners along the northern stretch of the promenade have their own needs during refits and the quieter months.

Downsizing without rushing decisions

Moving from a four-bedroom house to a flat or bungalow means letting go of a lot. The hardest part is often not the move but deciding what to keep. Storage gives you time to make those decisions calmly instead of on removal day.

  1. Sort into three groupsComing with you, definitely going, and not sure yet.
  2. Move the "not sure" group into storageLabel every box clearly, with a list kept at home.
  3. Live in the new home for a few monthsYou will soon learn what you miss and what you do not.
  4. Decide, then give noticeRehome, sell or fetch what is left, then give one month's notice on the unit.

Clearing a family home

When someone has to clear a parent's or relative's house, there is often a deadline from a landlord, a sale or an estate. A unit can hold furniture, photographs, papers and keepsakes while the family decides what to do, without anyone being pushed into a quick decision.

If the belongings include important paperwork, our guide to storing documents and archives has tips on boxing and labelling. For furniture, our furniture storage guide explains how to protect wood and upholstery.

Please remember that insurance is not included in our rent. Check whether your home contents policy covers items in storage, or arrange cover separately. Our storage insurance guide explains the options in general terms.

Getting a house ready to sell

If you are selling a larger home in this part of town, buyers will want to picture their own lives in it. Rooms full of furniture, books and collections can make a house look smaller than it is, and they make photographs harder to take well.

Moving some of it out before the photographs and viewings is a common approach. Typical candidates are extra chairs and side tables, a spare bed in a box room, bookshelves, and anything stored in the garage that buyers would like to see empty. It also means much of your packing is done before the sale goes through.

Because our rent is rolling monthly, you are not left paying for a long contract if the sale moves faster or slower than expected.

For hotels on the northern promenade

Hotels and guest houses on this side of town often need somewhere to put furniture during a room-by-room refurbishment, or to hold spare stock out of season.

The 300 sq ft two-storey unit at £130 a week (about £563 a month) has a roller shutter downstairs and an upstairs area with a window, reached by an internal staircase. That upstairs space can work as a small office for paperwork while the ground floor holds furniture and supplies. Business use needs our prior approval.

Local storage or a unit in central Blackpool

Before choosing anywhere, picture how you will actually use the space. A downsizing move might mean one large drop-off and a handful of visits. A hotel refit might mean regular trips over several weeks.

  • Will you need to get in outside normal hours? We have 24-hour access.
  • Will a relative or helper need to come with you? Check how access works at any site you consider.
  • Would you rather unload through a wide roller shutter or walk in through a door? We have both: roller-shutter units at 150 and 180 sq ft, and a 160 sq ft unit with a security door.
  • Are you happy with a rolling monthly arrangement? Ours is one month minimum, then one month's notice.

If you only have a few boxes, wait for our first-floor storage pods, opening in spring 2027 at guide prices from £10 a week. They are reached by stairs.

Questions

Can I keep a deceased relative's belongings in a unit while the estate is sorted?

Yes. Household furniture, papers and personal belongings are fine to store. The tenant must provide valid photo ID and a Direct Debit mandate, and the rent is rolling monthly so you can give notice when you are ready.

Is my furniture insured while it is in storage?

Insurance is not included in the rent. Check your home contents policy or take out separate cover before you move items in.

Which unit is easiest for loading heavy furniture?

The 150 sq ft and 180 sq ft units and the two-storey unit have roller shutters, which make large items easier to move in. All units are on the ground floor.

Can I move to a smaller unit once I have sorted through things?

Yes, you can swap to a bigger or smaller unit at any time, subject to availability.

Prices are subject to availability. Minimum rental term: one month, then one month’s notice to leave. Electricity usage is charged separately at the supplier rate, with no markup. Business use needs prior approval. Car storage is not permitted.
