Fylde area guide
Storage for Lytham
furniture, projects and events
Lytham is a small, elegant town at the southern end of the Fylde coast, with period homes, independent shops and a busy events calendar. This guide covers when a unit at The Rock Factory in central Blackpool might be useful to you, and when it might not.
Lytham and the kind of storage it calls for
Lytham looks out over the Ribble estuary, with the famous white windmill on Lytham Green and Lytham Hall set in parkland on the edge of town. It is part of Fylde borough, and the A584 links it along the coast with St Annes and Blackpool.
Storage needs here tend to be about quality as much as quantity. Good furniture during a house move, contents during work on an older property, stock for independent businesses and equipment for the many events held in and around the town. If any of those sound familiar, read on.
Work on an older home
Older houses bring older problems: rewiring, damp treatment, replastering, new windows. Much of that work needs rooms emptied completely, sometimes for weeks.
If you are moving valued furniture out of the way, a few habits protect it:
- Wrap polished wood in breathable blankets, not tight plastic that traps moisture.
- Stand mirrors and framed pictures upright, on their edges, never flat with weight on top.
- Take legs off tables where you can, and keep the fixings in a labelled bag taped to the table.
- Raise rugs and upholstery off the floor on pallets or boards.
Our furniture storage guide goes into more detail. Insurance is not included in our rent, so check what your home policy covers away from the house, and read our storage insurance guide.
For event hire and wedding businesses
Lytham is known for its summer festival on Lytham Green and for weddings and functions across the area. Behind those events are small businesses with a lot of kit: chair covers, backdrops, flower stands, lighting, signage, props and furniture.
That kind of equipment is bulky, comes and goes in batches and needs to be loaded fast. A roller-shutter unit is the practical choice. The 180 sq ft unit at £78 a week gives a good floor area. If you also need somewhere to do the admin, the two-storey unit at £130 a week pairs a ground-floor store with an upstairs area that has a window.
With 24-hour access, late returns after an evening event are not a problem. Our page on unit ideas for event hire looks at layout and rotation of stock.
Furniture restoration and upcycling
Some people who come to us are restoring and reselling furniture, often working from a garage that is no longer big enough. A unit can provide the floor space.
Be aware of our rules. Low-risk materials such as wood, fabric and card are fine. Bulk solvent-based paints and chemicals are not allowed unless agreed in writing, and all business use needs prior approval, so tell us what finishes and tools you plan to use. Water-based paints are worth considering.

Independent shops, studios and home stagers
Lytham's town centre is full of independent shops, galleries and salons, and plenty of interior designers and home stagers work in the area too. What they share is a lack of back-of-house space and stock that changes with the seasons.
An off-site unit can work as an overflow stockroom or a props store. A few ways people use one:
- Holding Christmas or summer stock until the shop floor has room for it.
- Keeping display fittings, mannequins and window props between campaigns.
- Storing a stager's furniture, lamps, cushions and artwork between properties.
- Keeping archived business paperwork out of a small shop's office.
Shelving makes the most of a windowless unit, as every wall is usable. If you need to move stock in and out often, think carefully about the trip, and see our guide to units, shops and coworking compared for the wider picture.
Weighing up a unit in central Blackpool
Lytham is at the far southern end of the Fylde coast from Blackpool town centre, so the journey is a real factor. Be honest with yourself about how often you will make it.
A unit here tends to make the most sense for Lytham people when:
- You will visit occasionally rather than daily, as with furniture during building work.
- Your work already takes you around the Fylde, as with event set-ups at different venues.
- You want power, Wi-Fi and a workspace, not just a locked box.
- You want a short commitment: one month minimum, then one month's notice.
If you need to pop in several times a day, something closer to home may serve you better, and that is fine.

Questions
Can I store antique furniture at The Rock Factory?
Yes, furniture is fine. Insurance is not included, so check your own cover before moving valuable pieces, and pack wood and upholstery in breathable covers.
Can I load event equipment late at night?
Yes. Tenants have 24-hour access, and roller-shutter units make loading bulky kit easier.
Can I spray-paint furniture in a unit?
Bulk solvent-based paints are not permitted unless agreed in writing, and all business use needs prior approval. Ask us on WhatsApp about your methods before you sign up.
Is there somewhere to work on admin at the unit?
Every unit has lighting, power and Wi-Fi connected. The two-storey unit has an upstairs area with a window, and there is a shared tea and coffee room. Separate offices at £70 a week each will be available from January 2027.
Can I rent a unit just for the festival season?
Yes. The minimum term is one month, then it rolls monthly until you give one month's notice, so a summer-only arrangement works.
Do you have a unit in Lytham?
No. All our units are in one building on Keswick Road, off Park Road, in central Blackpool.
Prices are subject to availability. Minimum rental term: one month, then one month’s notice to leave. Electricity usage is charged separately at the supplier rate, with no markup. Business use needs prior approval. Car storage is not permitted.
