Blackpool area guide
Storage for Marton
families, renovations and clubs
Marton is suburban Blackpool: family homes, extensions in progress, and lots of clubs and groups that need somewhere for their kit. This guide looks at whether a unit at The Rock Factory in central Blackpool fits your plans.
Marton and the reasons people look for space
Marton covers a wide stretch of south-east Blackpool, with the green space of Stanley Park on one side and the Marton Mere nature reserve further out. The A583, Preston New Road, runs through the area and connects to junction 4 of the M55.
The housing is mostly suburban semis, bungalows and detached homes. People here are less likely to be desperate for basic space and more likely to need room for a project: a loft conversion, a new kitchen, a growing family, or a club whose kit has been living in someone's garage for years.
Extensions, kitchens and loft conversions
Home improvement projects are a common reason Marton households rent storage. When builders need a room empty, the contents have to go somewhere, and a garage full of furniture is soon a garage full of dust.
- Plan the timing. Projects often overrun. Rolling monthly rent means you only pay for the months you use, with one month's notice when you leave.
- Protect furniture properly. Use breathable covers rather than sealed plastic for wood and upholstery.
- Keep a list. Note which boxes hold what, so you are not searching for the kettle on week three.
- Think about access. 24-hour access means you can fetch things in the evening after work.
Our full guide to storage during a renovation covers this step by step.
Bikes, sports kit and family overflow
With parks and open spaces around, many Marton families have bikes, scooters, camping gear, paddleboards and garden furniture. Most of it is used in summer and is in the way for the rest of the year.
For a household that just needs a bit of overflow space, a ground-floor unit may be more than you need. Our storage pods and rooms, opening on the first floor in spring 2027, come in sizes from a 15 sq ft pod to a 100 sq ft room, at guide prices from £10 to £34 a week (to be confirmed). They are reached by stairs, so heavy items are better in a ground-floor unit. See also our guide to seasonal storage.
When the garage becomes a room
Converting an attached garage into a study, playroom or extra bedroom is a popular way to add space to a suburban home. The catch is that everything the garage used to hold still needs somewhere to live: the lawnmower, tools, paint tins, Christmas decorations and the boxes nobody has opened since the last move.
Before you rent anything, sort it. Some of it can go to the tip or a charity shop. Some belongs in a garden shed. What is left, the things you genuinely use but not every week, is what a storage unit is for.
A couple of cautions. Leftover tins of solvent-based paint, fuel for the mower and gas cylinders are not allowed in bulk at The Rock Factory unless agreed in writing, so dispose of them properly or keep them in a suitable outdoor store. Hand tools, garden furniture, boxed decorations and DIY materials such as timber are fine.
Our guide to what not to store has the full list and the reasons behind it.
For clubs, teams and community groups
Sports teams, dance schools, scout and guide groups, amateur dramatics and other community groups all have the same problem: kit, costumes and equipment with no permanent home. Often it ends up spread across several members' houses.
A shared unit can bring it all together. A roller-shutter unit makes it easier to load nets, staging or display boards. You can also receive mail at the unit. Our page on units for clubs and community groups has ideas on sharing the cost and organising access. Ask us on WhatsApp how a group can rent a unit: move-in needs valid government-issued photo ID and a signed Direct Debit mandate.
What to compare before you choose
It is natural to look for something as close to home as possible. That makes sense for things you need often. For a renovation or seasonal kit, the trip matters less than the terms. Weigh up:
| Question | At The Rock Factory |
|---|---|
| Minimum term | One month, then one month's notice |
| Access hours | 24 hours |
| Power and Wi-Fi | Connected in every unit |
| Deposit | Equal to one month's rent |
| Insurance | Not included, arrange your own |
| Changing size | Swap at any time, subject to availability |
Put the same questions to anywhere else you are considering. Our storage insurance guide explains what to check on cover.
Where we are, and checking your route
Our building is at The Old Rock Factory, Keswick Road, off Park Road, Blackpool FY1 5PB, in central Blackpool rather than in Marton. We have no other sites and do not offer collection or delivery.
We will not guess at journey times for you. See your route from Marton on Google Maps and, when you are ready, send us a WhatsApp message to arrange a viewing. Units are available from 1 November 2026, with the first week free if you pre-book.
Questions
How long can I keep things in storage during building work?
As long as you need. After the one-month minimum the rent rolls monthly, and you give one month's notice when the work is finished.
Can a sports club rent a unit?
Yes, with our prior approval for the use. One named person signs up with valid photo ID and a Direct Debit mandate, and the club can share the cost however it likes.
Can I store a mobility scooter or e-bike?
Bikes and household items are fine. For anything with a large battery, ask us on WhatsApp first so we can talk it through.
Can I store petrol mowers or fuel cans from the garden?
Bulk fuel is not allowed unless agreed in writing. Ask us before bringing anything that contains fuel.
Prices are subject to availability. Minimum rental term: one month, then one month’s notice to leave. Electricity usage is charged separately at the supplier rate, with no markup. Business use needs prior approval. Car storage is not permitted.
