Storage guide
How to get cheap storage
in Blackpool
The cheapest storage is rarely the one with the lowest headline price. It is the one that is the right size, on the right terms, holding only things worth keeping. Here is how to get there.
1. Stop paying to store air
The most common way to overpay for storage is not a bad price. It is a unit that is too big. Empty floor space costs exactly the same as full floor space.
Most people size up out of caution, then pay for that caution every month. Make a list of the large items, estimate the boxes, and pack upwards: stacked boxes use height you are already paying for.
Our unit size guide turns square feet into rooms and boxes, and how to pack a storage unit shows how to fit more into less.
2. Compare price per square foot, not per unit
A small unit nearly always looks cheaper and is nearly always more expensive per square foot. To compare fairly, work out the yearly cost per square foot: weekly price × 52 ÷ size.
| Our space | Weekly price | Per sq ft per year |
|---|---|---|
| 15 sq ft pod (guide) | £10 | about £34.67 |
| 50 sq ft room (guide) | £22 | about £22.88 |
| 100 sq ft room (guide) | £34 | about £17.68 |
| 150 sq ft unit | £65 | about £22.53 |
So if you are between two sizes, the bigger one often costs less per square foot. That only helps if you would actually fill it.
3. Convert everything to the same period
Some prices are quoted weekly, some monthly, some per four weeks. Four weeks is not a month: a year has twelve months but thirteen four-week periods. Convert every quote to a monthly figure (weekly × 52 ÷ 12) before you compare.
We quote weekly prices and show the monthly figure next to them, so you never have to do this sum in your head at the counter.
4. Ask what is not included
The headline price is only part of the bill. Before you sign anywhere, ask about:
- Deposits, and when you get them back.
- Insurance, and whether it is compulsory.
- Padlocks, admin fees and set-up charges.
- Price rises after an introductory offer ends.
- The notice period, and what happens if you leave early.
Here, the deposit is one month's rent, the minimum term is one month and notice is one month. Electricity in ground-floor units is charged at the supplier rate with no markup.
5. Do not pay to store a decision
Storage is brilliant for things you will use again. It is an expensive way to postpone deciding about things you will not. A sideboard nobody wants costs nothing in the loft and something every month in a unit.
Spend one afternoon sorting before you move anything. Sell, donate or recycle what you would not pay to keep. Our decluttering guide has a simple method.
6. Match the term to the job
Long contracts can look cheaper per month, but only if you really need the full term. If you need space for a house move or a renovation, a rolling monthly agreement means you stop paying the month the job is done.
See short-term storage in Blackpool for how to plan it.
7. Share, or swap as you go
Two households or two small businesses can split one unit, as long as you both trust each other and one person is the named tenant. And if your needs shrink, ask to move to a smaller space rather than carrying on paying for the bigger one. At The Rock Factory you can swap units any time, subject to availability.
8. Use the offers that are real
Our ground-floor units are available from 1 November 2026 and pre-booking gets your first week free. If you need something smaller, register for a first-floor pod or room, opening spring 2027 at guide prices from £10 a week. message us on WhatsApp to do either.
