Storage guide
Short-term storage
in Blackpool
Most storage is needed for a gap: between houses, between tenancies, between the old kitchen and the new one. Here is how to rent for the gap and not a day longer.
When short-term storage makes sense
- Your sale completes before your purchase does.
- You are renovating and the furniture needs to be somewhere else.
- You are between rentals, or moving to Blackpool for work.
- A student year or a summer season ends and your things need a home.
- A business is moving premises and stock needs a holding place.
In every case the goal is the same: a short, predictable cost, then nothing.
Our terms, in one paragraph
The minimum term is one month. After that it rolls monthly, and you give one month's notice to leave. To move in you pay one month's rent in advance and a security deposit equal to one month's rent, show valid photo ID and sign a Direct Debit mandate. Access is 24 hours a day.
The full detail is on our rental terms page.
Plan the end before the start
The trick with short-term storage is to decide when it ends before it begins. Put the notice date in your calendar on the day you move in, a month before you expect to leave. Gaps have a habit of stretching, and a reminder costs nothing.
- Work out the gapYour best guess at the move-out date, plus a margin.
- Size it honestlyList the big items and count the boxes. Smaller is cheaper if it fits.
- Diary the noticeOne month before you expect to finish.
- Pack for leavingLabel boxes by destination room, so moving out is one trip, not three.
House moves and chains
Chains break and dates slip. A ground-floor unit with roller-shutter access lets you unload a van straight in and load it straight out again. Our guide to storage when moving house covers timing, packing and van hire.
Students and seasonal gaps
Summer is the classic gap: a tenancy ends in June, the next one starts in September, and the bedding, books and bike need somewhere to be. A small first-floor pod, opening spring 2027, is made for exactly this. See student storage in Blackpool.
Blackpool businesses have gaps too. Guest houses, market traders and events firms often need space for one season and not the next. Seasonal storage explains how to plan around the calendar.
When a business is between premises
If you are moving shop, closing one site before the next is ready, or holding stock for a few weeks, a ground-floor unit with roller-shutter access lets you unload straight from the van. Business use needs our approval first, so tell us what you will be storing when you message.
For paperwork that has to be kept but not in the office, read document and archive storage.
Renovations
Builders work faster in an empty room, and dust gets everywhere. Moving furniture out for the duration protects it and often shortens the job. See storage during a renovation.
Which size for a short stay
| Space | Roughly holds | Price |
|---|---|---|
| 35 sq ft pod (spring 2027) | A studio or small one-bedroom flat | Guide £17 a week |
| 75 sq ft room (spring 2027) | A two-bedroom home | Guide £28 a week |
| 150 sq ft unit | A three-bedroom home's furniture and boxes | £65 a week |
These are rough guides. How much fits depends on how you pack. The unit size guide has more detail.
What a short stay costs
A worked example, so there are no surprises. Say you need a 150 sq ft unit for two months while a house purchase completes.
